Weather, Wednesday, and Other Ramblings
1. Did some studying in the library today. I have an office but hey, the library looked lonely
2. Yesterday was a VERY productive day. If only all of that productivity left me with a week off…
3. It is snowing again. I love winter! I thought DC would beat the snow out of me but I’m ready for some more!
4. We have some pretty big media projects coming up. Some on the tech side and some on the production side. Either way, I’m excited about NEW!
5. The new iMac has been incredible. We rearranged our living room and it has created a whole new 3rd space for the family to chill and socialize. We are blessed beyond measure.
6. I’m fired up about the TN College and Career Retreat. If you are 18-25 or lead that age group you NEED to be there! I’m doing a breakout session on Saturday – The Gospel According to SBUX (thanks Len Sweet for the title).
7. I’ll be working the camera again tonight. Illustrated Parables @7pm. Don’t let the flurries keep you away.
Media Irony
Here are some things I find ironic about modern media:
1. The fair and balanced network is anything but. (I still watch though…)
2. MTV claims to be on the side of big social issues…yet they pump millions into Cribs and Jersey Shore. What the what?
3. 9 gaming systems, 4 iPods, 3 iPhones, TVs, hundreds of movies, Satellite, hundreds of books, board games, tons of toys, a giant yard, basketball court…and kids still say “I’m bored.” I need to sell it all and move to the country. Yeah right!
4. There is no need for 250 channels. Give me 30 good networks and lets call it a day. (I stole that thought from Marylynn Rajskub). Be honest. Do you watch every channel you pay for?
5. Helvetica.
6. Microsoft charges extra to make the 360 Wifi ready. They also charge extra to play online. They also don’t support Blueray (yet?) and charge extra for an HD DVD player. They do charge close to the same price (xBox Elite) as the PS3 which DOES do all of those things. And you say they aren’t the devil?
7. 10 years ago I didn’t own a cell phone, DVD player, laptop, PC, or a pager. I wanted those things but I lived without them. Today on the other hand…
Google Buzz
I don’t claim to be an expert in things social media or tech, but I am a fan. I’m curious to see how Google Buzz will impact social media. I like the concept. It’s much more down to earth then Google Wave. However, Google is missing out on access to 450 million Facebook users by not including them with Twitter, Picasa, YouTube, and Blogger as an app that integrates. You also can’t post to Twitter from Google Buzz, you can only follow your Tweets (I know I know, tweet is so 2009). Anyway, I’ll play with it just like I did Google Wave for the sake of staying up to date. I also fool around with Chrome too, even though I prefer Safari. Hey, I’m loyal! Sue me! With the Chrome OS, Wave, Android OS, Nexus One, and now Buzz, Google seems to be pretty serious about coming after Apple, Microsoft, and Facebook for their fair share of all things cool and tech. Are they too late? We shall see.
Media Monday
So today was supposed to be Media Monday. The plan was to do the radio show at 9, work on the web from 10 to lunch, and the do post production the rest of the day. Instead, I spent most of the day trying to hunt down a cable. One cable kept me handcuffed all day! I thought it would be easy to just head to Radio Shack, Best Buy, Wal-Mart, or any electronics place. But no, that would be too easy! Long story short…I found the cable. Crazy day!
Isn’t it crazy how the smallest things can make the biggest difference? Don’t neglect the little things.
The Next Greatest Generation
I’m so stoked!!
Sunday So Far
So far…
church was powerful. Altars full of folks earnestly seeking Him!
our new “There’s a Class That” ad came off well during vid announcements.
I signed up to take Koine Greek on Wednesday nights. Why you ask? Why not!?
I’m not gonna lie, it felt good to see someone other then MCC clear off the stage! Good work Josh!
we are enjoying a nice afternoon chilling at the house.
it has been very cool to follow Life Assembly’s service via twitter today.
it has been a great Sunday!
Don’t Believe The Hype
Here is why mainstream media bugs me: they mess up EVERYTHING! Let’s take social media for instance. I enjoy facebook and twitter. I have for years as have most of you….long before the media got in the game. Now you’ve got cnn and fox writing snarky articles about annoying status updates and tweets. Now don’t get me wrong…I’ve commented before and how people can get a little carried away with updates, but come on, it’s not that big of a deal. I believe that there is no such thing as a “right or wrong” way to use social media (unless you are a creepy perv or a predator or a spammer). If you want to use updates to self-promote, good luck with that. If you want t use updates to tell us what you are eating, have at it. If you want to use updates to tell people to check out jonniew.com, God bless you. There are different ways to update…but “right or wrong”? Doubt it. If you don’t like knowing the details of someone’s life then stop following them. If you don’t like mafia, farm town, or a ridiculous quiz, ignore the request. If you don’t “get” twitter then its probably not for you. But whatever you do, don’t judge. Let people have fun with their profiles. I personally enjoy the randomness and fun of status updates and tweets. They really do connect people. Don’t believe the hype. Don’t let the press and public opinion make decisions for you. Enjoy your updates while you can!
Making Moves

Made the move from blogger to WordPress today. Nothing personal…but WordPress is just more powerful. The blog is simple now but this current platform will set me up for some bigger things in the future. I’m genuinely fired up! For all my facebook friends who are unfamiliar with the blog…please take a break from silly quizzes and surveys and read some of the older posts. Gotta give a shout out to @John_Driver for influencing the move.
