Christian Leaders Beware

Yesterday I shared some notes that I took while listening to my colleague Dr. Robert Ball teach on leadership. Here are the rest of those notes:

Christian leaders beware –

The constant pursuit to be unique in style, cutting edge liturgically, or using originality in ministry as a measure of success may actually lead people away from the heartbeat of God.

The worship of self via contemporary standards of ecclesial success (newest trends, large numbers, best facilities, doing whatever it takes to get people in a building etc.) may actually reveal whose kingdom you are actually advancing.

The lack of respect for the seriousness of sin and the detriment sin brings to one’s personal life, the lives of those close by, the Name of Jesus, and the ministry may actually reveal that you know very little about the nature of God’s grace.

The aforementioned fruit may reveal that we have become church-centered instead of Christ-centered. God save us from turning your mission into our business.

  1. There’s a quote I enjoy:

“Christianity began as a personal relationship with Jesus Christ. When Christianity went to Athens, it became a philosophy. When it went to Rome, it became an organization. When it went to Europe, it became a culture. When it came to America, it became a business. We need to get back to the relationship.”
