I love Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Jitsu. There is nothing like experiencing the transformation that takes place as a person moves from stranger to family all through the medium of a martial art. There is something powerful about having an “instant friend” all because of this “gentle art.” Jiu Jitsu not only tears down walls of race, background, gender, and body type, it is also GREAT for one’s physical and mental health.
Here are just a few benefits to practicing BJJ:
– Self confidence. The techniques learned in BJJ not only help you learn how to defend yourself, they also give you the confidence to know that you can defend others.
– Well rounded physical training. BJJ training involves the best of long-duration cardio training AND high intensity interval training. BJJ improves cardio, explosiveness, AND it melts away fat.
– It’s not just a sport; it’s a lifestyle. The BJJ lifestyle does not function at its best in environments of ego, negativity, division, or strife. It promotes healthy eating, rest, and respect.
– Problem solving. BJJ is often referred to as human chess. The analytical skills one acquires while training in BJJ are applicable to just about every aspect of life. Bottom line, there’s always an escape plan!
